Services Provided

In 1986, Laurel Highlands Foundation, Inc. first opened its doors to individuals with intellectual disabilities, mental health needs, and challenging behavioral difficulties. Laurel Highlands Foundation, Inc. continues to place a special emphasis on meeting the behavioral needs of those with multiple disabilities.

While our business office is located in Allegheny county, Laurel Highlands Foundation, Inc., operates residential homes in Allegheny, Fayette and Westmoreland counties. At this time, services are being provided to individuals from multiple Pennsylvania counties. Nearly three hundred employees currently provide support through residential living programs, respite care, Adult Training Facilities, and the Respond program.

RESIDENTIAL PROGRAM

Currently both adults and children reside in the thirty homes operated by Laurel Highlands Foundation, Inc. These homes are located in various neighborhoods throughout Allegheny, Westmoreland and Fayette counties. Trained staff persons provide support 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, 365 days per year.

Laurel Highlands Foundation, Inc. endeavors to assist each individual in maximizing their potential. We provide the level of support necessary for each person to participate safely and fully in their home, school, work and community. These services are provided in an positive and encouraging atmosphere and focus on the needs of the individual and their families. Caring staff persons focus on meeting the behavioral, educational, emotional, medical, psychiatric and social needs of each person. Laurel Highlands Foundation, Inc. works with each person's team to support them in leading self-directed lives.

RESPITE PROGRAM

Laurel Highlands Foundation, Inc.'s Respite Services provide residential placements on a time-limited basis during crisis situations. These services are provided in a supportive environment and are based on the needs of the individual and his/her support team.

ADULT TRAINING PROGRAM

Laurel Highlands Foundation, Inc. provides a Day Program in the Mt. Pleasant area with meaningful day activities. Our goal is to encourage the progress of development of daily living skills, fine & gross motor skills, as well as personal hygiene/self help skills. Individuals participate in activities that encourage social skills and learn how to promote more independent skills. Attention is given to individual multi disabilities wholly to promote meeting the individual's personal needs.

RESPOND PROGRAM

Laurel Highlands Foundation, Inc. is a partner in a residential treatment service for youth that are dually diagnosed with mental retardation and mental health needs. Western Psychiatric Institute and multiple other agencies provide a clinical team that utilizes many systems of care. RESPOND provides a structured, therapeutic living environment, assessment, family services and comprehensive planning to youth in a staff intensive situation providing a minimum of two staff for each youth.
